Bird strike tests are performed with advanced equipment and measurement systems to evaluate the bird strike resistance of aircraft components and to meet certification requirements.
The test infrastructure includes a gas-powered launch mechanism integrated with the speed measurement system, a computer-controlled high-speed data acquisition system with a capacity of up to 80 channels and a 500 kHz frequency, high-speed cameras capable of recording up to 15,000 fps, adaptable instrumentation such as strain gauges, accelerometers, and force sensors, and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) systems.
The test system is capable of launching real birds or gelatin bird models at speeds of up to 650 knots with a launch weight of 0.5–3.5 kg.
